WJSN's Chu So Jung Dishes On Preparing For Her Role In Upcoming Drama “Heo’s Diner,” Chemistry With Co-Stars, And More
WJSN’s Chu So Jung (Exy) has shared her thoughts on her upcoming drama “Heo’s Diner”!
Based on the web novel of the same name, “Heo’s Diner” is a fantasy rom-com that follows Heo Gyun (EXO’s Xiumin), a figure from the Joseon era, who unexpectedly travels 400 years into the present time and unintentionally starts a restaurant.
WJSN’s Chu So Jung stars as Bong Eun Sil, the daughter of a humble, home-cooked meal restaurant that doesn’t even have a sign out front. A tough realist, Eun Sil often lets her emotions take over when faced with injustice. Though she appears strong on the outside, she has a kind and warm heart.
Outspoken and blunt, she never hesitates to speak her mind. When Heo Gyun suddenly appears in front of her mother’s restaurant, she immediately sees him as a nuisance, but she ends up running the restaurant with him and clashing with him at every turn.
Chu So Jung shared her excitement for her role, saying, “From the moment I read the script, the character felt so vivid. The story was incredibly fun, and I had a strong desire to portray Eun Sil.”
On how she prepared for her role, she shared, “I cooked a lot of home-style Korean meals while preparing for this role. Even when eating out, I mainly went to home-style restaurants, observed the owners, and engaged in conversations with them.” She added, “Eun Sil is someone with a solid and transparent core. To others, she may seem predictable, but she’s never someone to be taken lightly. That’s her biggest charm.”
Chu So Jung picked “bungeoppang (fish-shaped bun),” “perfect daughter,” and “youngest-ever” as the three keywords that best describe her character. She elaborated, “Eun Sil, who becomes the youngest owner of a famous home-style restaurant, may seem tough on the outside, but she is warm inside—just like a well-made bungeoppang. Despite growing up in difficult circumstances, she remains strong, making her the true definition of a perfect daughter.”
She also spoke about her chemistry with co-stars Xiumin, Lee Sae On, and Lee Soo Min, saying, “Everyone has such bright and cheerful personalities that there was never a dull moment on set. Because of that, we communicated well and felt comfortable acting together.”
Lastly, Chu So Jung encouraged viewers to tune in to the drama, saying, “If you enjoy fantasy or time-slip dramas, you’ll find this even more entertaining.” She added, “I hope ‘Heo’s Diner’ brings you warmth and comfort, just like a hearty home-cooked meal. Please show it lots of love.”
“Heo’s Diner” is set to premiere on March 24 at 5 p.m. KST.
