Lee Jun Young Discusses His Character, Preparation For The Role, And What Drew Him To “Pump Up The Healthy Love”

Lee Jun Young has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Pump Up the Healthy Love”!

“Pump Up the Healthy Love” is a rom-com drama about Do Hyun Joong (Lee Jun Young), a passionate and determined gym owner, who radically transforms the lives of his overly anxious gym members.

Lee Jun Young plays Do Hyun Joong, a former world-class bodybuilder who unexpectedly takes over an old gym. After using fitness to change his own life, Hyun Joong wins the prestigious Mr. David competition—every bodybuilder’s dream—only to disappear without a trace. He later returns as the owner of a small neighborhood gym, navigating the tough world of personal trainers and independent business owners to stay afloat.

Newly released stills show Lee Jun Young fully embracing his role as Do Hyun Joong, the heart of the gym. His strong presence, paired with playful facial expressions and gestures, hints at an entertaining performance as he blends comedy and romance.

Lee Jun Young, who has been busy with multiple projects this year, explained why he chose the drama. “I love comedy, and the script is so much fun. I also saw it as a chance to stay healthy while challenging myself with a new acting role,” he said.

Describing his character, he added, “He’s a gym owner who believes fitness is everything and can’t live without working out. He has a pure love for exercise and constantly worries about his members’ well-being. He may be a little clumsy, but his sincerity in caring for others makes him incredibly likable.”

Lee Jun Young also highlighted three key words that define his character: “protein,” “body fat,” and “muscle mass.” He explained, “These are the most important things in Hyun Joong’s life.”

Fitness was his top priority while preparing for the role. “Exercise was the most important part. I gave it my all, training hard and closely managing my diet,” he said. His transformation into a gym owner has fans excited for the drama.

He also noted some similarities between himself and his character. “I think we share some ‘T’ (Thinking) traits from the MBTI personality types. I also relate to his drive to do things thoroughly and pay attention to detail.”

Encouraging viewers to tune in, he said, “We had a great time filming this drama with a positive mindset, giving it our all. I hope it brings plenty of laughs, and you can look forward to some groundbreaking moments. Please show lots of love and support for the show.”

“Pump Up the Healthy Love” is set to premiere on April 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST. Stay tuned!
