Key Reasons To Look Forward To Upcoming Drama “Resident Playbook”
tvN’s upcoming drama “Resident Playbook” has revealed two key reasons why viewers should get excited for its premiere!
A spin-off of the hit series “Hospital Playlist,” “Resident Playbook” will depict the realistic and relatable hospital lives, growth, and heartwarming friendships of OBGYN residents at the Jongro branch of Yulje Medical Center.
Here are two reasons to anticipate the drama’s premiere:
A Story About Residents
Unlike “Hospital Playlist,” which followed professors who had already established themselves as professionals and adults, “Resident Playbook” focuses on fresh medical school graduates taking their first steps into society.
The drama follows first-year obstetrics and gynecology residents at Jongno Yulje Hospital—Oh Yi Young (Go Youn Jung), Pyo Nam Kyung (Shin Si Ah), Um Jae Il (Kang You Seok), and Kim Sa Bi (Han Ye Ji)—as they navigate the highs and lows of becoming doctors and finding their place in society.
Unlike the seasoned professors of “Hospital Playlist,” these residents are still inexperienced, both in their medical skills and social interactions. Each day brings unpredictable challenges, filled with both criticism and encouragement as they struggle to improve. From tasks that feel impossible no matter how many times they try to navigating relationships with people they’ve never encountered before, their journey mirrors the early career struggles that many viewers can relate to.
This heartfelt and relatable story is expected to resonate with audiences in a way that feels fresh and distinct from the original “Hospital Playlist” series.
A broader narrative with new characters and storylines
While “Hospital Playlist” was set at the main branch of Yulje Hospital, “Resident Playbook” shifts the focus to Jongno Yulje Hospital, expanding the story into a new setting. Although the two dramas share the same Yulje Hospital foundation, this spin-off takes the narrative in new and exciting directions.
Centered around the obstetrics and gynecology department, the drama doesn’t just focus on doctors and nurses—it also highlights the experiences of expectant mothers, patients, and their families, creating a broad spectrum of relatable narratives.
Additionally, since Jongno Yulje Hospital shares the same foundation as Yulje Hospital in “Hospital Playlist,” connections to its characters will gradually be revealed, adding an extra layer of intrigue. Viewers are eager to see what will unfold at this different branch of Yulje Hospital.
The production team shared, “While we’ve kept the heartwarming, everyday stories that defined the original series, this spin-off adds a fresh perspective by focusing on the growth of residents. We believe it will offer a completely new kind of emotional connection, different from ‘Hospital Playlist.’”
“Resident Playbook” will premiere on April 12 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
