Son Suk Ku Talks About Reuniting With 'My Liberation Notes' Director For New Drama 'Heavenly Ever After'

Son Suk Ku has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Heavenly Ever After”!

JTBC’s “Heavenly Ever After” is a transcendent romance starring Kim Hye Ja as Lee Hae Sook, a woman who reunites with her husband in heaven after death. Unlike the other residents of heaven—including her husband Go Nak Joon (Son Suk Ku), who has chosen to return to the 30-something version of himself—Lee Hae Sook makes the unusual choice to keep her 80-something appearance.

Notably, the series marks Son Suk Ku’s reunion with director Kim Suk Yoon, with whom he previously worked together on the hit 2022 drama “My Liberation Notes.”

Newly released stills from “Heavenly Ever After” offer a glimpse of Son Suk Ku in his role as Go Nak Joon, a devoted husband who works as a mailman in heaven. One photo captures Go Nak Joon enjoying a quiet moment in his garden, which at first glance might look like an ordinary garden that could be found anywhere on Earth. However, the sense of peace and the blissful smile on Go Nak Joon’s face hint at the fact that he is actually in heaven.

Meanwhile, another photo shows Go Nak Joon on his way to work. As a heavenly mailman who delivers “wish letters,” Go Nak Joon has a lengthy commute: he must go all the way to Earth in order to provide a means of communication between Earth and heaven.

When asked why he chose to star in “Heavenly Ever After,” Son Suk Ku replied, “Because of our relationship stemming from ‘My Liberation Notes,’ I had deep trust in director Kim Suk Yoon. Also, when I heard that I could act in a romance drama with Kim Hye Ja, I immediately made up my mind to appear [in the drama].”

Son Suk Ku also summed up his character by saying, “Go Nak Joon is a character that loves Lee Hae Sook. Everything he does is for Hae Sook.”

He continued, “The heaven in this drama is not a stiff world that just a few people came up with, but a world that was conceived through very ordinary imagination to which anyone could relate. Most importantly, our drama is searching for something more beautiful than heaven, something beyond heaven.”

“Heavenly Ever After” will premiere on April 19 at 10:40 p.m. KST.
