Yook Sungjae Reacts With Pure Joy After Trying Human Food For The First Time In New Drama “The Haunted Palace”
SBS’s “The Haunted Palace” has released new stills of Yook Sungjae in character!
“The Haunted Palace” is a fantasy historical rom-com that delves into the tale of the Eight Feet Tall spirit that bears a grudge against the king, a female shaman who opposes it, and an Imugi (imaginary creature that is able to transform into a dragon upon acquiring a magical jewel).
BTOB’s Yook Sungjae stars as Yoon Gap, a royal archivist and Yeo Ri’s first love, who becomes possessed by the evil Imugi, Gang Cheol.
Newly released stills show Gang Cheol intensely stuffing food into his mouth, his eyes wide in shock, sparking curiosity about the scene. After spending 1,000 years in the spirit realm, Gang Cheol is now experiencing the human world for the first time. With his newly acquired sense of taste, he quickly becomes obsessed with the flavors he encounters.
In one photo, he’s seen gripping a large chicken drumstick, fully immersed in chewing, tearing, and savoring each bite. His wide-eyed, childlike reaction—clearly overwhelmed by the flavors he’s tasting for the first time in a millennium—adds a humorous touch to the scene.
In the next still, Gang Cheol is seen holding a liquor bottle with both hands, taking big swigs as he slowly gets tipsy. His once-intimidating aura as an evil spirit is gone, replaced by a content smile as he finishes off the entire meal.
Once a proud and all-powerful figure who mocked everything around him, Gang Cheol now appears disarmed, wearing a blissful smile. The stark contrast builds anticipation for the unpredictable laughs his chaotic journey through the human world is sure to bring.
Yook Sungjae delivers a standout performance as a unique half-human, half-god character, born from the fusion of a thousand-year-old Imugi and a human body. Even in still photos, his performance is filled with humor and energy, heightening excitement for what’s to come.
“The Haunted Palace” premieres on April 18 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will be available to watch on Viki.
