Park Sung Yeon, Lee Ji Hye, And Hong Yoon Hwa Dish On Their “Pump Up The Healthy Love” Characters, Praise Co-Star Lee Jun Young, And More

Park Sung Yeon, Lee Ji Hye, and Hong Yoon Hwa have shared more insights into their characters in “Pump Up the Healthy Love”!

“Pump Up the Healthy Love” is a rom-com drama about Do Hyun Joong (Lee Jun Young), a passionate and determined gym owner who radically transforms the lives of his overly anxious gym members. Jeong Eun Ji plays Lee Mi Ran, an assistant manager at a travel agency who joins the gym to get over a recent breakup.

Bringing lively energy to the drama is the gym’s mischievous “witch trio”—Park Sung Yeon, Lee Ji Hye, and Hong Yoon Hwa.

Park Sung Yeon plays Im Sung Im, the feisty leader of the gym’s resident troublemakers, while Lee Ji Hye takes on the role of Yoon Boo Young, the second-in-command who has low stamina but high determination. Hong Yoon Hwa stars as Park Dul Hee, the lovable youngest of the trio who joins the gym in hopes of shedding belly fat. Though they each arrive at the gym with different stories, their bond soon grows strong enough to feel like true sisters—offering warmth, support, and plenty of laughs.

Park Sung Yeon shared what drew her to the drama, saying, “Reading the script felt like flipping through a comic book or webtoon—everything came to life so vividly.” She added with a laugh, “I poured all my menopausal energy into this role.”

She also playfully described her fellow cast members using quirky nicknames: Lee Jun Young “recklessly uses his face,” Jeong Eun Ji is “the easygoing diva,” Lee Mi Do is “dirty sexy,” and Lee Seung Woo “is an onion—you keep peeling back layers and finding more to like.” As for the trio themselves, she affectionately dubbed them “the traffic lights of the gym”—each bringing their own color and energy to light up viewers’ weeknights.

Lee Ji Hye spoke warmly about her character, saying, “Boo Young is someone who’s loved inside and out. Her puppy-like charm and easygoing nature rubbed off on me while playing her.”

She also showered praise on co-star Lee Jun Young: “I have endless respect for him. His lines are long, but he always delivers them flawlessly with freshness and energy every time. His portrayal is so fun to watch. Since this is our second time working together, I feel an even deeper fondness. This project really showcases his full potential.”

Hong Yoon Hwa, who described the show as “a drama that’s healthy for both the body and the heart,” proudly shared how much she relates to her role: “Dul Hee never gives up tasty food, not even at the gym—that part is just like me.” Speaking on the difference between comedy and drama, she said, “The pacing and emotional depth are completely different. But thanks to the amazing chemistry among the cast, the set was always filled with laughter. I especially learned so much from working with my witch sisters.

“Pump Up the Healthy Love” is set to premiere on April 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
