Watch: Famous 2nd-Gen Boy Group Member Appears On TV For 1st Time In 9 Years On "The King Of Mask Singer"
A former boy group member returned to the stage on the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer”!
During the April 20 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, four contestants advanced to the next round in their quest for the throne.
In the first match-up of Round 2, “Pretzel” moved the crowd with a soulful rendition of Yoo Jae Ha’s classic hit “My reflection in my mind.”
Spoilers
After watching his performance, the celebrity panelists praised Pretzel for his skillful singing and charmingly unique vocal tone. ARTMS’s HeeJin guessed that he was a fourth-generation idol based on the dancing he showed off on last week’s episode. However, Kim Gura disagreed, noting that his ability to capture the sentiment of Yoo Jae Ha’s song suggested he was from an older generation.
Despite stealing hearts with his singing, Pretzel ultimately lost the round to his opponent. When he took off his mask, he turned out to be none other than former BEAST and Trouble Maker member Jang Hyunseung.
Jang Hyunseung confessed with a laugh, “When the [panelists] guessed that I was a fourth-generation idol and the speculation veered in the younger direction, it honestly felt good.”
The singer also shared that he felt his real-life personality was very different from his onstage image during his Trouble Maker days. “On stage, I wore heavy makeup, and my songs were intense,” he explained. “So people that see me in person often say that I’m very different from the onstage image that they remember of me.”
Notably, “The King of Mask Singer” marked Jang Hyunseung’s first television appearance in nine years. However, he expressed a desire to return to actively promoting, and the panelists urged him not to waste his talents and good looks by staying at home.
