Creators Of “Pump Up The Healthy Love” Reveals Why It’s A Refreshing Dose Of Healing

The creators behind KBS’s upcoming drama “Pump Up the Healthy Love” have talked about the drama’s charm!

“Pump Up the Healthy Love” is a rom-com drama about Do Hyun Joong (Lee Jun Young), a passionate and determined gym owner who radically transforms the lives of his overly anxious gym members. Jeong Eun Ji plays Lee Mi Ran, an assistant manager at a travel agency who joins the gym to get over a recent breakup.

At the core of the drama is the dynamic between Hyun Joong, a muscle-obsessed gym owner, and Mi Ran, a complete novice. The unlikely pair meet as trainer and trainee, igniting not only chemistry but also a refreshing blend of humor and heart.

Surrounding them is a colorful cast of characters who breathe life into the gym, including longtime trainer Rosa (Lee Mi Do), mascot Alex (Lee Seung Woo), and the quirky trio known as the “Witch Trio”—Im Sung Im (Park Sung Yeon), Yoon Boo Young (Lee Ji Hye), and Park Dul Hee (Hong Yoon Hwa)—each with stories of their own.

Together, they embark on a journey that goes beyond physical transformation—the drama explores how exercise becomes a gateway to emotional healing, self-discovery, and unexpected connections. From hardcore fitness lovers like Hyun Joong to complete newbies like Mi Ran, “Pump Up the Healthy Love” promises to captivate viewers with its relatable and heartfelt stories.

Writer Kim Ji Soo revealed that the variety of characters is one of the show’s biggest strengths: “You’ll find at least one person who mirrors your own worries. Life doesn’t always allow time for yourself, but I wanted to show how going through the process of working out can change your life. I hope viewers will follow the characters’ journeys of growth and transformation.”

Director Park Jun Soo described the series as “a drama that’s both nutritious and delicious, like a good meal.” He added, “You’ll laugh while watching, but before you know it, you might find yourself doing push-ups or straightening your posture. There’s also fun in watching the characters’ dry humor and their earnest desire for physical beauty.”

“Pump Up the Healthy Love” will premiere on April 30 at 9:50 p.m. KST following the conclusion of “Villains Everywhere.”
