Florence hosts 'Samsung Korea Film Fest'

2006.04.05

The 2006 edition of the Korea Film Fest in Florence will include contemporary Korean films, retrospectives of the directors PARK Chan-wook, KIM Ji-woon and SONG Il-gon, an exposition of photographer KIM Gyoo-sik and a homage to the late video artist PAIK Nam-jun.

A section titled "contemporary classics" will screen a variety of films from the political-themed The President’s Last Bang (IM Sang-soo, 2005) to the drama My Mother the Mermaid (PARK Heung-shik, 2004) to the comedy She’s on Duty (PARK Gwang-choon, 2005).

The retrospectives on directors PARK Chan-wook, KIM Ji-woon and SONG Il-gon include their well-known feature films, as well as lesser known short films from the beginning of their careers. KIM and SONG will be present at the festival.

The festival not only focuses on cinema, but also wants to show a broader side of Korean culture by hosting exhibitions of Korean artists and discussions.

The festival’s 4th edition will be held from March 30 to April 6. The festival is made possible through collaboration between various Korean and Italian companies and organizations. Because of its renewed relation with Samsung Electronics Italia, the festival is this year renamed as Samsung Korea Film Fest.

Other important Korean sponsors include the Korean Film Council, which supported programing of the festival and financing of administrative expenditures.
