Not too long ago, Shinhwa had released their 9th album celebrating their ten-year anniversary as one of Korea’s most successful groups. Through thick and thin, the boys had managed to stay together as a group as well as doing solo activities which ranged from solo albums, MC-ing, modeling, to acting. Members Minwoo, Hyesung, Dongwan, and Junjin have each released solo albums of their own, and recently, the youngest of the group, Andy, was given the chance to try his luck as well.

Last November, Andy released his first digital single, “Extraordinary Imagination”, and earlier this year, released his first solo album, “The First New Dream”. This album would prove to fans Andy’s capability not only as a rapper but as a singer as well. Around the same time, Andy decided to hold a special concert lasting six days, from Jan 18 to 23. Titled “Andy the First…Six Days’ Small Miracle”, each of the days was color-coded to represent different themes, making each one unique. Andy’s first solo concert has finally been recorded and released for fans to watch and cherish.

Included in the album are two DVD discs and a 50-page photobook which has photos from the concert. The first disc consists of the entire concert recorded from Red Day (Jan 21), which is Andy’s birthday. Included in the DVD are performances of tracks from his solo album, including hit songs such as “Extraordinary Imagination” and “Love Song”, as well as a special guest appearance from Shinhwa members who wished him Happy Birthday. Other footage included are songs from his musical appearance, a performance where Andy serenades a fan from Japan, Andy performing Wonder Girls’ “Tell Me” dance, and an encore performance of Shinhwa’s debut song, “Eusha Eusha”.

The second disc includes backstage footage for all six days of the concert, where fans can see Andy getting pampered, meeting fans, and rehearsing. Andy explains the different themes of each of the color themes. For example, Yellow Day represents the bright sides of Andy and therefore, the day was more focused on his variety shows. Red Day was special because it was Andy’s birthday and Shinhwa had come as special guests. Other special guests such as Hwangbo and Byul are also seen in this DVD. The DVD also includes a showing of Andy’s house, which many fans would enjoy.

When speaking in a musical level, I don’t feel that this concert DVD was worth purchasing. Music lovers who have never heard of Andy would not be impressed by his musical skills through this concert. I personally felt that he lacked the vocal talent when performing his ballads live; I found myself cringing many times. In addition, I didn’t think the staging of the concert was incredible as it seemed very compacted, with little room for Andy and the backdancers to perform. However, quantity-wise, I felt that this concert DVD included many goodies, whether it was from the actual concert or the behind-the-scene captures. The people at the concert seemed very excited and I would like to assume that the same would go for other Andy fans.
