The
title of Wheesung’s sixth album, ‘Vocolate’, is a combination of the
words vocal and chocolate, which is a clever way of describing how
silky smooth R&B is supposed to sound like. Already in the lab
working on his U.S. debut with producer Rodney “DarkChild” Jenkins and
R&B sensation Ne-Yo, Wheesung is aiming to warm up the appetites of
his fans with this latest Korean album.

From the opening track
to the last, ‘Vocolate’ does not disappoint. The first track, “Over U” is
very upbeat and serves as a great introduction to the album. Next is
the second track, (”Love…That Cruel Disease”) which is a power ballad
that shows off Wheesung’s vocal range. The third track (the title song,
“Trickling”) is a ballad describing the aftermath of a breakup and the
effect of having rain drip on one’s face to express tears. It may not
be the best track on the album, but it is a strong single that will
grow on listeners after the first listen.

Track 4, “Tears Keep
Flowing and Flowing” and track 5, “Rose” are both catchy songs. Double
K adds some hip-hop flavor and contributes a short verse to the upbeat
dance number on “Rose.” Almost at the album’s halfway point, the mood
switches back to slow tempo ballads. The next track, “Your Heart’s
Resting Day” is an emotional ballad. Track 7, “Alone” picks up the pace
slightly with Wheesung’s melodic vocals, but is still a soft sounding
track.

Wheesung attempts to bring sexy back on track 8 (“Show
Me Girl”). Wheesung croons and whispers practically throughout the
entire song but it actually doesn’t end up being very memorable.

The
next two songs (“One Kiss” and “Girls”) contain elements of the vocoder
and autotune. They are both very radio friendly and infectiously
catchy. Verbal Jint from the Overclass crew lends a verse on “Girls”
that is sure to please his fans. Last but not least, the album closes
with two ballads (“I Love You..” and “Time Machine”).

Overall,
fans of Wheesung will dig this release. There is an ample mixture of
ballads, dance tracks, r&b and pop to satisfy the average listener.
While fans continue to digest ‘Vocolate,’ at some point, it is inevitable that this will only further the excitement over Wheesung’s upcoming American debut.
