2PM’s first album 1:59 PM is quite a special one for the fans especially. With the controversies revolving around leader Jaebum, the album title holds a more special meaning than it really looks. The title song of the first album is “Heartbeat” and to be honest, with all the commotion about it, I had really expected the song to sound a little bit better than it actually is. The song is catchy and it does sound quite nice, however I wouldn’t call it the best song off the album. It is quite different and unlike mainstream K-Pop title songs though. “기다리다 지친다
” is a mix of smashing beats and rhythms that echoes in your head while “너에게 미쳤었다”
bears the similar beaty rhythms. Though the two and remaining tracks sounded good, I wasn’t happy to hear how much background beats were used. I really wanted to hear a song with more vocals and less sound because basically the background was overpowering the beautiful vocals that lie behind. The nice thing about some first albums is that previous songs are included and different versions are available. I really loved the acoustic mix of “Only You” due to the fact that it felt like the missing piece of this puzzle. It was a really beautiful touch to the album. To make the album stand out a little bit more, there was a Bossa nova mix of the last track and I felt it was a cool affect for the album. Overall, I thought that the album was one that held a different but admiring feel.
