Epik High and f(x) to perform at MIDEM on Jan 26th
The MIDEM (Marché International du Disque et de l’Edition Musicale) festival is an annual music trade show in Cannes, France. This year, the event will take place on January 24th – 27th. Record labels and artists from over 80 countries have been scheduled to attend and appear for the event. Countries attending will include the special guest country of honor, South Africa, along with acts from the UK, Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, U.S. and many more. MIDEM 2010 will showcase genres such as traditional African music, jazz, rock, pop, hip-hop, r&b, reggae, electronica, and house.
This year, hip-hop group Epik High and newcomer pop idol group f(x) have been invited to represent Korea and will be performing on Jan 26th in the Salon Acajou of the Martinez Hotel.
Epik High, widely known for their deep socially conscious hip-hop tracks, has been one of Korea’s most consistently successful groups within the past few years. Last year, the group formed their own independent label (Map the Soul), embarked on a U.S. concert tour and released their 6th official double disc album entitled “[e].” Conversely, f(x) is a rookie female pop group from SM Entertainment with only two digital singles and a mini-album. MIDEM will be their first performance outside of Asia.
Although the two groups are polar opposites of each other, they both will represent the diversity and evolution of mainstream Korean music to European fans and new audiences alike. f(x) is scheduled to open the show by performing a half hour set before Epik High takes the stage.
In the meantime, the groups will be enjoying the festivities as spectators. Tablo of Epik High has even hinted on his Twitter account that there is a possibility for future collaborations with some of the international artists the group has met at the festival.
