Weekly K-pop Music Chart 2010 - February Week 3

1. (+2) SNSD – Oh! *** 1 WEEK NO. 1 ***
Score:
960
Genre: Pop / Dance
Music: Kenzie / Lyrics:
Kim Jung Bae, Kim Young Hoo
Album: SNSD Vol. 2 Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV
Live Performance
Comment: To no surprise,
SNSD’s “Oh!” climbed two more spots to No. 1, as it has been on almost
every major chart in Korea. However, the margin is much smaller than
expected as SNSD just edged out 2AM by six points. After a very
successful 2009 seeing them become one of k-pop’s premier girl groups,
SNSD is back with their 2nd full length album “Oh!”. The title track,
which is the same as the album title, is composed by Kenzie. It is of the
electronic pop genre and is about confessing to a crush in a cute and
honest way.

2. (–) 2AM – 죽어도 못 보내 (Can’t Send You
Even If I Die)

Score: 954
Genre: Pop Ballad
Music + Lyrics: Bang Shi Hyuk
Album:
2AM mini-album “Can’t Send You Even If I Die” Track 2 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance
Comment: If it is not
due to such a strong opponent in SNSD, 2AM would have scored their first
No. 1 song on our chart. Instead, they stay at No. 2 with “Can’t Send
You Even If I Die”, a song produced by hitmaker “Hitman” Bang Shi Hyuk.
Through their new mini-album, 2AM will be able to show hybrid genres
with trendy sounds and danceable beats, a 200% upgrade from their last.
To fit the global trends in music, electronica sounds can also be heard.
We are able to see that 2AM are also capable of dance numbers. The
title track which is the same as the mini-album title, is still the
vintage power ballad we are known of 2AM.

3. (-2)
CNBlue – 외톨이야 (Loner)

Score: 939
Genre: Rock
Music: Kim Do Hoon, Lee Sang Ho /
Lyrics: Han Sung Ho, Amen
Album: CNBlue 1st mini-album
“Bluetory” Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live
Performance
Comment: After three weeks on top, CNBlue
dropped to No. 3 with their debut song “Loner”. Having debuted in Japan
as an indie artist, and also front man Jung Yong Hwa starred in the
popular SBS drama “You Are Beautiful” last year, CNBlue is returning
home to Korea to release their first mini-album. “Loner” was composed
by Kim Do Hoon and Lee Sang Ho. It has addictive beats and a strong
melody. One can say that this is a song only CNBLUE can express.
Despite plagiarism accusation swirling around this song, it doesn’t
affect its popularity.

4. (+5) Kim Jong Kook – 이
사람이다 (It’s This Person)

Score: 701
Genre: Pop Ballad
Music + Lyrics: Park Gun Woo
Album:
Kim Jong Kook Vol. 6 Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV Live Performance

trademark high pitch voice, “The One Man” Kim Jong Kook is back with his
6th album “Eleventh Story”. The title comes from the eleven albums he
has released in total since his Turbo days. There are also a total of

by Min Myung Ki and the members all took part in penning the lyrics to
the songs. There are a total of six new songs and two instrumentals, the
title track being “Sunflower” which features Sunny Side MJ. The song
was composed by Min Myung Ki and penned by Gavy NJ lead vocalist, Jang
Hee Young, is about looking at the person one breaks up with and is not

Score: 684
Genre: Pop / Dance

K. Smith
Album: See Ya, Davichi, T-Ara digital single “Wonder
Woman” Track 1

Comment: The success of
“Women’s Generation” last year prompted a sequel now. The difference
this time is that Eun Jung and Hyo Min represent T-Ara instead of Ji
Yeon, and also See Ya’ s new member Soo Mi also participates, making it a
total of seven members. Together the girls are to showcase powerful
harmony. “Wonder Woman,” like “Women Generation,” is a bokgo dance
number with a catchy and slight trot melody. The song is about girls’
friendship and loyalty. This week it remains at No. 6.

repackaged version of his 4th album. This song even though still a
ballad, has a more up-tempo arrangement. It also features the rapping
of 8Eight’s Baek Chan. “Love Teaches You How To Drink” is written by

(Let You Go)

Score: 448
Genre: Rock Ballad

Album: Trax 1st mini-album
Track 1 Purchase this album
Watch: MV

Comment: Long before the
debut of pop rock groups like FT Island and CN Blue, Trax is already in
the industry since 2004. Perhaps the most underrated group from SM
Entertainment, Trax has undergone both members and music style changes
during their career. When they debuted in 2004, they had a visual rock
concept which was popular in Japan at the time. Now Trax has become a
duo and they shifted their focus to rock ballads. The title track from
their mini-album “Cold Hearted Man (Let You Go)” is perfect for anyone
who has gone through a breakup. The sad melody and lyrics are prominent
in the song. The song was composed and arranged by member, Jung Mo and
the lyrics were penned by Jay. This week it moves up 8 spots to No. 12.
