Shin Se-kyung Cast In "My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho"
Finally, some movement: 19-year-old rising star Shin Se-kyung — who recently shot to popularity after acting in the sitcom High Kick Through the Roof — has agreed to the lead role in the romance-fantasy drama series My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho.
The competition was stiff, and the Hong sisters writing duo considered top names to play the glamorous, gorgeous gumiho (a mythical creature that is depicted as a fox with nine tails who takes human form but feeds on human organs). Shin’s competition included Jeon Ji-hyun in her highly anticipated television comeback (I wonder if that means Jeon will take Rain’s drama now) and 2NE1’s Sandara Park. While the contracts aren’t yet finalized, Shin Se-kyung has told producers of her decision; she will join Lee Seung-gi, who plays the innocent (and ever-so-slightly-wimpy) boyfriend who both loves and fears her.
My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho will broadcast on SBS in August. While I think Jeon Ji-hyun would have fit the image of the role perfectly, and I’ve got nothing against Sandara Park (though she seems more cute than proud), I think Shin Se-kyung is a good fit and I’ll look forward to it. Heck, with this writing team, I’ll be looking forward to it anyway.
