Meet the Top 11 Finalists of Super Star K2!
On September 10th, the top eleven contestants were selected for Mnet’s reality show, Super Star K Season 2. In last year’s season one, ten contestants were chosen for the competition. This year, however, only seven contestants moved past the rival mission. In the end, four more contestants were chosen to move on through a series of in-depth interviews and revival rounds, for a final count of eleven contestants. The average viewership for this episode was a record 12.756% (AGB Nelson Media), showing that all eleven finalists are already gaining celebrity-level popularity.
This year’s Top 11 finalists are John Park, Huh Gak, Kim So Jung, Lee Bo Ram, Park Bo Ram, Andrew Nelson, Kim Eun Bi, Kim Ji Soo, Jang Jae In, Kang Seung Yoon, and Kim Geu Rim. These eleven contestants will face their first competition on their way toward the top through a live stage on the 17th. The first three episodes of the show will be taped at the CJ E&M Center in Sang Am-dong. The final three episodes will take place at Kyung Hee University’s Peace Hall, a venue that seats around 4,000 people.
The judging standards of Super Star K2 are much harsher than last year’s season, but the prizes have become that much bigger. Last year, the winner was chosen based on a score broken down as follows: 10% judges’ scores, 20% prior online votes, and 70% viewer votes. This year, however, the weight of the judges’ scores is higher: 40% judges’ scores, 10% prior online votes, and 50% viewer votes.
Regarding this change, Kim Yong Bum (CP) said, “Last year, we gave viewer voting the most weight because we wanted the auditions to be as fair as possible. However, some people felt that the winner was chosen basically through a popularity contest because of this. So, we increased the weight of the judges’ to counteract this.” In addition, last year, the Top 10 finalists were competing for a prize of one hundred million won. This year, the finalists are competing for a bigger prize of two hundred million won along with a brand new car, a QM5.
Viewers also have a new service at their fingertips. Starting this year, viewers can watch Super Star K live or re-watch the show on their smart phones. Smart phone users can visit http://m.mnet.com to easily access this new service from Super Star K.
