SNSD Set A Weekly Record On Oricon
Just recently we have been celebrating the success of So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD) in the Japanese market, having ranked high on the Oricon Daily charts. Daily charts are usually taken lightly as they often fluctuate; however, SNSD has proven it is more than just a fluke by setting a new record on the Oricon Weekly with their Japanese version of “Genie”, ranking in at #4, as reported by Oricon on the 14th of September.
“Genie” sold 45,000 copies in its first week, which surpasses the Oricon record of “best results from a debut single for foreign female artists” that was previously held by KARA with their Japanese debut of “Mister”, which ranked in at #5 with 29,000 copies in its first week.
An official is reported to have stated, “The results are better than we expected. If results like this are to continue, we expect even more outstanding results from their next promotion period.”
I have to agree. With outstanding results from both KARA and SNSD, the future of Korean girl groups in Japan is definitely to be a bright a one!
