Park Chan-wook May Direct English-Language Film

Korean director Park Chan-wook may be making his English-language movie directorial debut.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the acclaimed director is in talks to direct “Stoker,” a drama about a young woman who loses her father and, as disappearances start to accumulate within her hometown, starts to have suspicions about the formerly estranged uncle who comes back into her life.

“Stoker” already has some star names attached to it.  The script was written by actor Wentworth Miller, who himself has a strong fan base in Korea.  Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster have already signed on to play leading roles, although the role of the uncle has yet to be cast.  The movie will be produced by Ridley Scott Associates and developed by Fox Searchlight Studios.

Park Chan-wook, who is considered one of the top filmmakers in Korea, also enjoys international acclaim. His movie “Oldboy” won the prestigious Grand Jury Prize at Cannes in 2004.  He has directed many famous movies, including “Joint Security Area” (2000), “I’m a Cyborg But That’s OK” (2006), and “Thirst” (2009).
