Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2011 - March Week 4

Big Bang wins the top spot for the second straight week with “Tonight”. The song is still gaining in scores and is the favorite to stay on top again next week.

The new No. 2 song is K.Will’s “Heart Is Beating”, closing in and quickly moving up 11 spots to be the runner up this week. This song tops most internet and airplay rankings in Korea last week and will continue to narrow its gap with Big Bang’s “Tonight”.

There are two brand new entries inside the top 10, led by Wheesung’s “Story Of A Cold Heart”.  Wheesung just released his single album two weeks ago and this song already topped MNet’s M!Countdown this week. “Story Of A Cold Heart” is still scoreless in many of our sources this week but already debuted at No. 6.  Look for this song to be in the top 3 next week.

DBSG also has a new hit song “Before U Go” entering our chart at No. 9. After promoting “Keep Your Head Down” and “Maximum”, this new hit is coming from the repackaged version of their album. Yet another song that should move up very fast.

THIS WEEK IN 2007:

In this segment we go back in time to re-visit charts of the same week in past years.  Soompi music chart begins in January 2005.  At first we had only 20 songs and later expanded to 50 songs.

March week 4 in 2007: A new sexy diva was born and scored her first No. 1 song that week. Multi-talented Ivy had already showcased her skills from her debut album “My Sweet And Free Day” in 2005.  She has superior dancing skills, she is great in both up-tempo and ballad songs. At that time where live singing is still not mandatory, she already performed live on all her stages. Many fans comment that she is sexy without having wearing sexy outfits.

Ivy waited until 2007 to release her second album “A Sweet Moment”. The title song ” Sonata Of Temptation” only took four weeks to get to No. 1 on our chart and went on to stay on top for five weeks.  Again, Ivy showcased her talents singing live and showing difficult dance moves at the same time.  Her follow up hit, a ballad “If It Is Like This” also went to No. 2. She draws comparison to Lee Hyori and many people think that she will be the next major female soloist. She was easily the most popular female solo artist that year.

Unfortunately, she had in a scandal involving her ex-boyfriend (prior to her debut days) at the end of that year. It also didn’t help that the next year her management company closed down so Ivy has to find a new company. She finally came back at the end of 2009 with her third album. Due to her prior scandal, the big changes in k-pop during her absence, and also many similar singers had since debuted, the album and its title track fell short of expectation.

To this date, “Temptation Of Sonata” is still Ivy’s biggest hit.  Let’s re-visit this song’s MV here.
