“Poongsan” Makes Profit Within Five Days of Release

The Korean film “Poongsan” was made with a $200,000 budget and it already began making profit within five days of its release. Currently “Poongsan” has amassed a total of $319,493. The amazing thing about this film is that the two stars Yoon Kye Sang and Kim Kyu Ri were signed on without guarantees and are a part of the film as “investors.”

It has been three years since Kim Ki Duk directed a film and for “Poongsan’s” initial success he had written a thank you letter for viewers. “Yesterday night I heard from director Jeon Jae Hong that now we can finally give a guarantee (pay) for the staff of the film, I cried at the news that viewers continue to watch the movie,” “I can’t believe that a low-budget film of which I wrote the script is making a profit within Korean theatres.”

For those of you who don’t know about this film, here is a synopsis:

The film stars Yoon Kye Sang (from G.O.D.) and the beautiful Kim Kyu Ri. “Poongsan” is about a mysterious man (played by Yoon Kye Sang) who can go back between Seoul (South Korean Capital) and Pyongyang (North Korean Capital) within three hours. He receives a secret request by South Korean government agents asking him to bring over In Ok (Kim Kyu Ri) who is the lover of a high-ranking North Korean defector. On their way back to South Korea, they fall in love with each other. South Korean agents ask a dangerous request. Also, North Korean spies scheme to capture In Ok in order to execute the high-ranking North Korean defector.
