Celeb Style File: TOP
Celeb Style File is our weekly in-depth look at a celebrity’s real-life style. This week, we’ve chosen to feature TOP, who most recently released the best-selling album “Tonight” with the rest of Big Bang. Here we look at his public appearances in the past couple years.
We’ve often heard it said that men’s fashion is more restrictive and dull than women’s. For the most part, we have to agree… that is, until we take a look at TOP at any red carpet event. Regular old tuxedo? Not for our dear TOP. How about switching the boring black jacket for one in tricked-out purple brocade? Gray suit with standard blue button-down? TOP doesn’t do standard. How about a neon pink shirt instead? Better yet, how about ditching the suit and wearing a neon pink blazer? As for hair — sure, tons of idol stars do copper brown and even blond, but have you ever seen anyone besides TOP try to pull off platinum silver? And makeup? Because of course TOP wears makeup. After all, he has to play up that killer gaze — a gaze which somehow manages to be smoldering and intense, yet smoky and cool at the same time. No matter your bias, you have to agree that TOP’s eyes are like none other.
One of the interesting things about TOP is that his demeanor doesn’t seem to go with neon brights and crazy patterns. This is a guy who (as Eat Your Kimchi has noted on several occasions) doesn’t dance, even when the music has an irresistible beat and everyone else is shaking away around him. He rarely smiles in photos (although when he does, it’s a sight to behold), preferring to wear an enigmatic smirk instead. His bearing is ultra-cool and controlled. Yet his clothes are a riot of colors and combinations; they speak of a mind that’s truly creative and original. Who is the real TOP? We may never know, but we’ll happily spend a long time trying to figure it out!
47th Baeksang Awards, in purple brocade jacket
Lotte Duty Free Store event, in hot pink blazer
In gray flannel suit and hot pink shirt
At 47th Grand Bell Awards, in deep purple quilted velvet blazer
At 71: Into the Fire press conference, in jeans and white blazer with black trim
At 31st Blue Dragon Film Awards, in burgundy velvet blazer (wow, he really loves his purple-toned blazers, doesn’t he?)
In green blazer with matching fur stole(!!!)
Plastic hot pink sunglasses!
Favorite look: Well, he’s a pretty good dresser overall. Maybe the brocade blazer at the Baeksang Awards — it was so eye-catching, especially compared to all the black tuxedos in the crowd!
Least favorite look: We have to say — we admire his ability to take risks, but we like TOP better with black hair. So the Blue Dragon Film Awards was kind of a miss for us.
As always, if you have suggestions for celebrities to feature, please let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate! See you next weekend!
