Soompi Drama of the Week: “Heartstrings”
While it only aired one episode this week, “Heartstrings” managed to take this week’s “Soompi Drama of the Week” title. Thursday night’s episode was pushed back because it’s female lead Park Shin Hye was unable to film after sustaining injuries from her car accident. While this youth melodrama has been plagued with single viewership ratings in Korea, it’s been building a strong fan base overseas. Perhaps this short break will help the production team regroup and return with an even better, stronger plot.
In the seventh episode, Gyu Won (Park Shin Hye) finally decided to give up her feelings for Shin (CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa) and backs off. However, this sudden change of heart has Shin a bit surprised and dazed. Viewers were refreshed to see this new interaction between the leads. As much as guys love to save a damsel in distress, both Suk Hyun (Song Chang Ui) and Shin rush to comfort Gyu Won after she lost the lead role in the school’s 100th Year Anniversary Musical to to Hee Joo (Woori). This ending scene has many wondering if this is the beginning to a angst filled love triangle!
Meanwhile, Lee Min Ho’s “City Hunter” recorded 18.8% and 19.3% (AGB Nielsen) viewership ratings on Wednesday and Thursday. Moon Chae Won and Park Si Hoo’s new drama “The Princess’s Man” and “Heartstrings” finished a distant second and third respectively.
For those of you who have been following the drama, what are your thoughts? Consider this your “open thread” to rant and rave about the “drama of the week!”
