Songs Impossible to Listen to With a Straight Face Anymore Because of K-Pop: Batch #5

Welcome back, Soompiers, to “Songs Impossible to Listen to with a Straight Face Anymore Because of K-Pop.” The fifth batch features Super Junior‘s Eunhyuk, SHINee’s Onew, and Shinhwa‘s Eric and Kim Dong Wan.

1. “She’s Gone” by Steelheart
Many of you may be unfamiliar with this song, as well as the band. Steelheart debuted in the the US in the early nineties, and something about their glam metal style really caught the attention of Koreans at the time. As noted in the video, this is a song just about every karaoke-goer has attempted at least once in Korea. It’s one of those songs that would have been really good had it been left alone, but it’s been pulled apart and butchered by many a wannabe singer over the years.

Super Junior’s Eunhyuk also takes a stab at the hit song in his unique comedic and trot style. One of the greatest joys about watching this video, though, is being able to see some friendly faces. 2. “Love Like Oxygen” by SHINee
Other than being known for his “Condition” and abnormally strong ttakbam, Onew is well known for his imitations. Onew has always done a good job of accentuating the unique characteristics of each person. In this particular instance, Onew imitated his fellow SHINee member, Jonghyun, singing their song “Love LIke Oxygen.” Let me just say I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this clip. Really.
