Soompi Gayo Awards 2011 Nominees: Vote Now!
**Vote for the Top 10 Singers of 2011**
This is our seventh annual Soompi Gayo Awards event to recognize the top performers in Korean music in 2011, and we promise this year’s awards will be the best. Once again, the 2011 Soompi Gayo Awards will be announced on New Year’s Eve, December 31.
To take this award to the next level, we are proud to partner with MYX TV for the first time this year, and they will broadcast the award show on January 10, 2012.
As always, we take pride in achieving a fair result by utilizing many different sources for our music chart. We expect these awards to be given to the artists whose songs achieved the highest popularity in Korea this year. The awards categories will be the same as last year, except we merge the mixed group and duet awards into one single award. Once again, you, the fans, will vote for the Top 10 Singers of 2011!
For the Top 10 Singers of 2011, you will be voting from 40 singers who have been in the music industry for more than one year and have received the highest scores combined on our weekly music chart in 2011. From this pool, you can vote for three singers. Your first choice will receive five points, second choice three points, and third choice one point. Like last year, each member can vote every 24 hours. If we discover any cheating, we reserve the right to abandon the results of the voting. The voting deadline is December 28, 11:59 PM PST. Your votes will count for 40%, while the other 60% will be based on the singers’ accumulated chart scores (complete details below).
**Vote for the Top 10 Singers of 2011**
Apart from the Top 10 Singers award, the awards below are based on our music chart performances only. Here are the nominees:
Song of the Year: The song that accumulated the highest overall score on our music chart. We are going to post the top 50 songs of 2011 (previous we posted top 20), and the No. 1 song will be crowned Song of the Year. Note that if an artist has more than one song on the top 50, the song with the highest score will get ranked, so each artist can only have one song on the year end ranking. These six songs have the highest total chart score in 2011. They are the nominees:
Infinite – 내꺼 하자 (Be Mine)
miss A – Goodbye Baby
Secret – 별빛 달빛 (Starlight Moonlight)
Sistar – So Cool
SNSD – The Boys
T-ara – 롤리 폴리 (Roly Poly)
Album of the Year: The full album that accumulated the highest overall score on all its songs. Note that if a song is first released as a digital single and later included in a singer’s full album, the song’s score as a digital single will also be counted towards the full album score. The nominees are:

Infinite Vol. 1 (Special Repackage)

Mini-Album of the Year: The mini-album that accumulated the highest overall score on all its songs. Note that if a song is first released as a digital single and later included in a singer’s mini-album, the song’s score as a digital single will also be counted towards the mini-album score. However, if a repackaged version of an original album is a mini-album which includes the original full album’s title song, that title song will not be counted again in the mini-album score to avoid duplication. Mini-album also includes EP’s and singles which can be sold in record stores physically. The nominees are:

*The calculation method of the Top 10 Singers is as follows:
40% from fan voting
60% from our weekly music chart scores, adjusted for competition, seasonal, and position factors. (Note: Collaboration song scores will be divided equally between participating artists.)
Competition: The total scores of all 50 songs added up for each week, compared to average score (over 52 weeks) in 2011. The weeks with above average scores mean that the songs in that week are facing stronger competition, and thus are “rewarded” with an adjustment factor to which it is above the average score. Likewise, songs appearing in a week that is under average are “penalized” with an adjustment factor to which it is under the average score.
Seasonal: Albums and songs released towards the end of the year are weighted higher than the beginning of the year because more popular singers and important albums are usually released in the second half of the year. We are using an increment of 0.01 each week, starting from January Week 1 with a factor of 0.75. July Week 1 is the mid-year point and the factor is 1. December Week 4 is our last week and the factor is 1.26.
Position factor: To reward songs that rank higher in the chart, we assign a weight for each song each week. Even though our weekly chart has 50 songs, the focus is still on the top 20 songs. As a result, songs from No. 1 to No. 20 will receive a considerably higher factor than songs from No. 21 to No. 50 each week, as follows:
1 – 1.000 |
11 – 0.650 |
21 – 0.300 |
31 – 0.200 |
41 – 0.100 |
