Insooni Opens Up on Her Father and Her Past on "Star Life Theater"

Legendary singer Insooni spoke about her search for her father and traced her steps through life on the March 5 episode of KBS 2TV‘s “Star Life Theater.” In this episode, Insooni attended the graduation ceremony at her old school. Her old report cards show that her grades were excellent, and the teachers wrote that she quickly grasped concepts and was a lively student. However, they also wrote that she is often worried by the color of her skin.

Insooni’s father was an African-American who served in the US military when he met her mother. However, he did not stay in Korea and Insooni’s mother raised her alone. When speaking about her father, she said, “I’ve heard that my father played the piano well. It seems that he sometimes also performed at clubs. I can’t honestly say that I’ve felt no ill-will towards my father. I want to ask him why he left. When I was a child, I didn’t know what the village kids and adults said, but as I got older, I heard their words. I thought to myself, ‘Why am I here?’ Three years ago I tried to find him. I thought that if he saw me, he might feel some sense of guilt. But in the end, I couldn’t find him.”
