First Episode of "Love Rain" Draws In Mixed Reactions
The first episode of the long-awaited drama, “Love Rain,” featuring Jang Geun Suk and Girls Generations’ YoonA, has finally aired, drawing in mixed reactions. There have been positive comments, saying that the drama had beautiful cinematography as well as negative reactions, saying that the drama was boring.
“Love Rain” is Yoon Suk Ho PD’s newest project – he has worked with past dramas such as “Autumn Fairy Tale” and “Winter Sonata,” which were both famous for the beautiful cinematography. Viewers were aesthetically pleased with the college campus background, which was said to draw feelings of nostalgia. Focusing on the natural sunlight and rain was also said to be a nice touch. Jang Geun Suk, YoonA and the other supporting cast were all in retro-1970s outfits, which added to the fun. Many good comments were made on the colors, background and other aesthetic components of the drama.
Many netizens also praised the drama for bringing out the lyrical story line. They commented, “This 1970-esque atmosphere is making my heart flutter,” “I can see the innocence,” and more.
Jang Geun Suk and YoonA’s acting skills were deemed as moderate and passable. Jang Geun Suk did a good job in portraying an innocent and romantic art student. YoonA well-presented an innocent home economics student as well.
However, there were criticisms saying that the story is not innovative. Netizens said that the only good thing about the drama was its aesthetics and nothing else. They left bitter comments saying that “Love Rain” was like a repeat of “Winter Sonata.”
During this episode, Seo In Ha (played by Jang Geun Suk) falls for Kim Yoon Hee (played by YoonA) at first sight. There were scenes such as walking in the rain and going on dates, which highlighted the youthful, feel-good romance. Despite the mixed reactions, netizens are continuing to show their anticipation on how this drama will play out in the future.
