Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2012 - March Week 5
Last year’s inactivity did not hurt 2AM a bit, as they recaptured the top spot on our chart in just two weeks with their new song “I Wonder If You Hurt Like Me”. They did it with a very impressive high score of 973, and won it over a couple of Big Bang songs. “Fantastic Baby” finally scores higher than “Blue” this week, despite the latter song’s triple crown win in SBS Inkygayo.
There are three new songs at the bottom of the top 10 this week. At No. 8, it is a collaboration between the lead singers of a rising boy band and a rising girl group. Yang Yo Sub of BEAST and Jung Eun Ji of A Pink duets for the first time with a lovely ballad “Love Day.” This is the first song for the “A ‘Cube’ for Season” project series. “Love Day,” is composed by Kim Gun Woo who is responsible for hits such as MC Mong’s “I Love You, Oh Thank You” and “Letter Written To You Part 2.” This duet is about a new couple getting to know each other and was released on White Day.
At No. 9, veteran female singer Lyn is back with Part 2 of her 7th album titled “Love Fiction”. The title song “Teddy Bear” moves up 13 spots this week to No. 9. It is a medium tempo pop ballad number composed by Vibe’s Yoon Min Soo. It holds easy beats and lyrics that are easy to follow. Hae Geum from the female trio BeBe Mignon is featured as a narrator on this song.
The new song with the most potential is debuting at No. 10 this week. SHINee is coming back with their 4th mini-album “Sherlock.” The title song of the same name enters our chart at No. 10. Sherlock refers to famous detective Sherlock Holmes. That’s why the song has an English subtitle “Clue + Note.” While “Clue” and “Note” itself are also separate tracks on the mimi-album, “Sherlock” combines the two songs together. This is definitely a new experiment in K-Pop. “Sherlock” is definitely a song to challenge for the top spot in coming weeks.

Comment: We continue our coverage on veteran songwriter Yoon Il Sang’s upcoming 21st anniversary album. The latest pre-released single is from Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga In’s “For You Not To Know.” The original version of this song is sung by female duo As One and was their debut song back in 1999.
As One is a Korean-American duo formed by Min Lee and Crystal Chae in 1999. Back then, the first wave of K-Pop was budding and many Korean musicians living overseas were moving back to Korea and brought their music style, a hybrid of American R&B and Korean pop ballads and blended into Korean pop style R&B. As One is among the groups that is focus on this genre. They got their name As One because the two girls similar voices and even looks that fans thought the song was sung by a solo artist. While “Day By Day” may be the more popular song from their debut album in 1999, “For You Not To Know” is also a great song. Watch the MV of both versions to see if you like As One’s original version or Ga In’s latest version.
As One is still active today. The duo have participated in some music projects in recent years to experiment new styles.
