Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2012 - April Week 3
This week’s new No. 1 song is a surprise as indie rock group Busker Busker scores their first No. 1 hit with “Cherry Blossom Ending” moving up six spots to steal the top spot from more established mainstream artists. It shouldn’t be a total shock as this song was No. 1 on M!Countdown last week and was also No. 1 on GAON and Billboard Korea. Despite the group’s lack of promotion on major TV networks, the high scores from other sources made up for it. Busker Busker is the second Superstar K alum to top our chart. Seo In Kook did it in 2010 with “Saranghae U”.
CNBlue’s “Hey You” was in a good position to become the new No. 1 song, but they scored much lower on Billboard Korea and GAON than “Cherry Blossom Ending”. Still, “Hey You” moves up one spot to No. 2 and over last week’s top song, SHINee’s “Sherlock”, which drops to No. 3 this week.
There are three new songs in the top 10 this week. Busker Busker is not the only Superstar K winner in the top 10 this week. Huk Gak, who won Superstar K2, is back in the top 10 with his latest hit “Person Who Once Loved Me”. Huk Gak has been a top 10 regular ever since his debut, and was named top male soloist on our Soompi Gayo Award last year. “Person Who Once Loved Me” is coming from his new mini-album “Lacrimoso”. It is a tear-jerker composed by Choi Gyu Sung. It has beautiful sting and piano arrangements. Huh Gak does a great job hitting all the high notes with much ease. The music video features A Pink’s Naeun and actor Ahn Yong Joon star as the main characters. Naeun plays the role of a girl that loses her memory.
The top six songs this week are all by male groups and soloists but it is going to change next week. Debuting at No. 7 is 4minute’s new song “Volume Up,” coming from their third mini-album with the same title. It is a Sinsadong Tiger-Rado production. It has an addictive saxophone melody and honest lyrics. “Volume Up” is definitely going to make some noise around the top next week.
The last new song in the top 10 is a collaboration between Yangpa, Davichi’s Lee Haeri, and new singer Hanna. Their song “Love Is All The Same” moves up 18 spots to No. 9 this week. This song is written by Cho Young Soo and Kang Eun Kyung. It is a preview song of Yangpa’s upcoming album. “Love Is All The Same” is a love song with heartbreaking lyrics and sorrowful melody, in which the vocals of Yangpa and Lee Haeri, each sensational but with different feelings, come together. The rap featured new singer Hanna.
