Most Memorable Kisses in Kdramas
On Thursday, Koreans celebrated Kiss Day, an unofficial romantic holiday celebrated every June 14. In honor of the special day, one online dating site conducted a survey asking netizens to vote for the best kdrama kiss. In Korean dramas, the kiss is the defining moment in the series, and the producers, as well as the actors, have done a great job in creating memorable kiss scenes. Over a thousand single men and women in their twenties and thirties voted Yoo In Na and Ji Hyun Woo’s tip-toe kiss in “Queen In Hyun’s Man” as the best, and many Soompiers seem to agree with the results.

“Secret Garden” : Sit-up Kiss
The sit-up kiss between Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won was undeniably one of the most intense and intimate kisses of all time. Ironically, there was no exchange of lips, or tongue, in this kiss. However, every time Hyun Bin came up from his sit-up exercise, he would lock eyes with Ha Ji Won; and for that millisecond, they were the only people in the world. Whenever she would try to look away, the ever so assertive Hyunbin drew her back into it.
“The Greatest Love” : Recharge Kiss
The angsty buildup behind this kiss was what it made that much more satisfying and passionate. Cha Seung Won and Gong Hyo Jin finally gave in to their feelings and confirmed their love for each other. While everything about the scene, from the background music to the emotional acting, was beautiful, we couldn’t help but notice that Cha Seung Won looked like a turtle as he leaned out of his car to kiss Gong Hyo Jin.
“Secret Garden” : Foam Kiss
Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won left another lasting impression with their ever-so-dreamy foam kiss. The kiss attracted many envious looks from female viewers and sparked many parodies among celebrities. During the scene, Ha Ji Won drank a sip of her cappuccino, unintentionally leaving foam on her lips. Instead of offering her a napkin, Hyun Bin gets up and matter-of-factly wipes kisses off the foam. The foam kiss was truly a “sweet” kiss.
“Iris” : Candy Kiss
This particular kiss took the entire country by the storm when it first aired, leading to one of many food-related kisses. In the scene, Kim Tae Hee was disappointed that Lee Byeong Heon came empty-handed on White Day. He surprised her by kissing her, surprising her by passing her a candy inside his mouth. Fans expressed mixed reactions to the kiss, as some called it romantic while others claimed gross. Regardless, the candy kiss has been forever cemented in our minds as one of the iconic kdrama kisses ever.
“Brain” : Bubblegum Kiss
This particular kiss was unforgettable, not because it was romantic, but because it was quite the opposite. Shin Ha Gyun and Choi Jeong Won made headlines with this sticky kiss. In the scene, he stares down at Choi Jeong Won as he always does, slowly peeling off traces of bubblegum, which blew up in her face. Hesitantly, he decides to give her a peck before he grabs her for a passionate kiss. “Iris’s” candy kiss was one thing, but a bubblegum kiss? That just sounds (and looks) messy!
“Winter Sonata” Snowman Kiss
A hallyu classic, “Winter Sonata’s” snowman kiss scene beautifully portrayed the heart-fluttering first kiss between Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo, who played the younger high-school versions of their characters in the scene. In an attempt to show his feelings, Bae Yong Joon carefully moves their snowmen in for a kiss, making Choi Ji Woo smile. She surprises him by pecking him on the cheek. As she looks away embarrassed, Bae Yong Joon returns her kiss on the lips!
“Lie to Me” : Coke Kiss
The coke kiss, if you couldn’t tell by the name, is another sticky, food-related kiss. After having a coke fight throughout the kitchen and the living room, the two suddenly feel a connection, and Kang Ji Hwan fiercely kisses Yoon Eun Hye. However, the mess, more so than the kiss, left a lasting impression on many.
“High Kick Through the Roof” “ Scarf Kiss
Who knew this fashion accessory could be put to such romantic use as this? Choi Daniel and Hwang Jung Eum heated up the screen with this steamy kiss. Not only was it one of the most parodied scenes, the scarf kiss quickly became every girl’s dream. The intensity of Choi Daniel’s eyes as he peered into Hwang Jung Eum’s was enough to make hearts skip a beat.
“Queen In Hyun’s Man” : Tip-toe Kiss
Worthy of the title “Best Kdrama Kiss,” Ji Hyun Woo and Yoo In Na had sparks flying in their tip-toe kiss. The two were thoroughly enjoying their passionate kiss. In order to overcome their 8.7 in (22 cm) height difference, Yoo In Na stood on her tippy-toes on Ji Hyun Woo’s feet to give her extra lift to meet his lips. The kiss was especially meaningful in that it marked the start of their love that transcended time and space.
So that’s it! What was your most memorable kdrama kiss?
