Super Junior Wins Grand Prize for Day 1 of 27th Golden Disk Awards + Full List of Winners
A glamorous festival of K-Pop was held in Malaysia last night.
The first day of the 27th Golden Disk Awards in Kulala Lumpur were held on the evening of January 15 (KST). The awards show drew in a crowd of about 15,000 people, who all came to see their favorite K-Pop artists.
Last year’s Golden Disk Awards were held in Osaka, Japan and this year, it was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Many fans from Indonesia and Singapore attended the awards show asa well.
The Grand Prize (or Disk Daesang) went to Super Junior this year for their sixth full-length album, “Sexy, Free & Single,” which sold over 480,000 copies. This is Super Junior’s third time winning the Grand Prize; their first one was won in 2009 for “Sorry Sorry” and their second was won last year for “Mr. Simple.” Super Junior’s third win recorded them for the most Grand Prize wins along with Kim Gun Mo, Jo Sung Mo and Girls’ Generation.
Fans went wild when Super Junior was announced as the winner. The Super Junior members shed tears as they kissed their trophy. They gave an acceptance speech by saying, “We are standing here because of your love. First, we want to thank the fans. Then we want to thank our super manager, teacher Lee Soo Man and CEO Kim Young Min.” They continued, “We want to share this honor with Leeteuk, who is not here due to military obligations.” Besides the Grand Prize, Super Junior also won the Disk Bonsang and the MSN Southeast Asia Award.
