“Gu Family Book” Places First in Ratings
The popularity of the new MBC drama “Gu Family Book” is rising fast with the increase in ratings for Tuesday’s episode over its first episode on Monday, placing it first among the Monday-Tuesday drama lineup.
According to Nielsen Korea, “Gu Family Book” recorded 12.2% ratings for its second episode on Tuesday, which is a full 1.0% increase from its Monday ratings of 11.2%. In contrast, “God of the Workplace” recorded 12.1% ratings on Tuesday, a small drop from its 12.3% on Monday. With the increase in ratings, “Gu Family Book” placed first on Tuesday with “God of the Workplace” following right behind and “Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love” trailing at third place. “Jang Ok Jung” fell from its 11.3% ratings on Monday to 9.1% on Tuesday.
Currently it is hard to declare a clear winner of the Monday-Tuesday drama lineup with the main leads of “Gu Family Book” and “Jang Ok Jung” yet to make an appearance and having only aired their first two episodes so far. Also, the percentage difference between “Gu Family Book” and “God of the Workplace” is not significant enough to make a firm conclusion.
In related news, it has been reported that the broadcast rights of “Gu Family Book” has been sold overseas to the Philippines, Hong King, and Cambodia, and currently the production company is negotiating with other countries. A representative stated, “We can’t reveal exactly how much the rights were sold for but it was around the same amount as the drama, ‘The Moon that Embraces the Sun’.”
