DMTN's Daniel Appeals His One-Year Sentence
Daniel of idol group DMTN, who was sentenced to one year of prison, recently submitted his appeal to the Suwon District Court.
After his submission reaches the high court and a date is determined, Daniel’s lawyer will be notified within fourteen days.
Daniel, who admitted to his charges during the first trial, is claiming unfair sentencing in his appeal.
On October 17, Judge Ham Suk Cheon had sentenced Daniel to one year in prison and a 7,000,000 won fine (approx. $6600) for the distribution and abuse of drugs.
The court stated, “Marijuana use may not often be recognized as illegal, but it is an undeniable crime. As he [Daniel] was dealing the drugs, thereby increasing its use, we cannot take this lightly. However, we did take into consideration the fact that Daniel came forward voluntarily, and that he was repentant for his actions throughout the trial.”
From last August to this past February, he received marijuana 15 times from dealers, and then dealt it to Bianca Mobley from KBS’s “Global Talk Show” as well as three others, after which he was charged for dealing.
While he had denied use of marijuana during investigation, after positive results from hair tests, he received additional charges for drug abuse.
