TVXQ Breaks Record Set by Bon Jovi 13 Years Ago on Japan's Oricon Chart

Adoringly called the “Gods of K-Pop,” TVXQ has set a new record on Japan’s definitive music chart, Oricon, showing the group’s continuing popularity beyond the borders of its originating country.

Not only did TVXQ’s latest Japanese album, “Tree,” top the daily album sales chart on Oricon on the day of its release on March 5, but it also topped the weekly chart. “Tree” is not the duo’s first album to do so; “Best Selection 2010,” 2011’s “Tone,” and 2013’s “Time” also topped the weekly album sales chart, making “Tree” the fourth TVXQ album to reign as first. 

“Tree” sold around 225,000 units, making it TVXQ’s third studio album to sell over 200,000 units in its first week. With this, according to Oricon’s press release, TVXQ breaks the record set by American rock band Bon Jovi which sold over 200,000 units in a week for two straight albums in a row 13 years and 10 months ago. TVXQ has sold over 200,o00 units in the first week for three straight albums in a row as a foreign artist. 

TVXQ also holds another record on Oricon as the foreign artist with the most number one singles on Oricon’s weekly album sales charts. They have had 12 of their singles place on top.
