2NE1's "Crush" Ranks Among Rolling Stone's Best Pop Albums of 2014, Only Asian Group on the List
Girl group 2NE1’s 2nd album “Crush” was listed in Rolling Stone’s 20 Best Pop Albums of 2014.
“Crush” was the 6th album introduced out of the 20, which included Taylor Swift’s “1989,” Pharrell Williams’ “Girl,” Ariana Grande’s “My Everything,” and Maroon 5’s “V.” Being the only Korean, let alone Asian, album to be introduced, the list portrayed the album’s popularity and high quality.
While introducing 2NE1, Rolling Stone said, “Female foursome 2NE1, buoyed by a cameo on ‘The Bachelor,’ moved more units of their album in its first week of release than any previous Korean act.”
After its release last February, “Crush” proved its popularity by reaching the top of numerous music charts. Their album scored 61st place in “Billboard 200,” setting the highest record for a Korean album on the list, succeeding in gaining fame overseas.
Also, one of 2NE1’s biggest hits, “I AM THE BEST,” was used in Microsoft’s tablet commercial for the U.S, leading it to become the number one Billboard world digital song.
Meanwhile, 2NE1 will be moving their stage to the U.S, joining forces with the state’s most prominent agent, Scooter Brown. On December 16, CL’s appearance in DJ Skrillex’s music video for “Dirty Vibe” with G-Dragon caught the audience’s eye. She has especially been gaining attention as media sources, such as Rolling Stone and Billboard, have been writing about the music video.
