'JYJ Law' Proposed to Prevent Unreasonable Blacklisting of Stars

On April 13, JYJ’s Junsu took part in the recording for EBS’ music program “Space Sympathy.”  This was his first music show appearance on Korean television in six years due to previous contract conflicts with SM Entertainment, which resulted in an essential ban from appearing on television in Korea.

In order to prevent something like this from happening again, the “JYJ Law” was proposed to prevent broadcasting companies from blacklisting stars without proper reasoning.

On April 14, Assemblywoman Choi Min Hee, a member of The Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning, submitted a legislative bill to make amendments to broadcasting regulations.

Assemblywoman Choi stated, “On July of 2013, the Korea Fair Trade Commission put a restraining order on JYJ’s past company and related organizations from interfering with the group’s promotions, but JYJ is still unable to appear on music shows and the unfair actions have been continuing,” and added, “Separate from the issue of the agency that is blocking broadcasting offers and appearances, there’s a need for sanctions on the broadcasting companies that are doing the same thing.”

This law will include prohibition of unreasonable banning of broadcast appearances and the license for the Korea Communications Commission to take proper measures if a blacklisting is to happen in the future.

Kim Jaejoong, Park Yoochun, and Kim Junsu, who are former members of TVXQ, formed the group JYJ in 2010 but had a hard time appearing on TV and distributing albums or songs after their conflicts with SM Entertainment and the Korea Culture Industry’s Federation.
