Exclusive: VIXX on Journeying Forward and Looking Back

Before the boys of VIXX took to the stage in Orlando, Florida, for what would now be their fourth solo concert tour in the U.S., the memories of their first fanmeeting couldn’t help but wander around in their minds. Establishing themselves as a boy group with perhaps the most diverse of concepts, VIXX has come a long way since their days as a rookie back in 2012, nervous and solicitous about every performance. Now, their schedules are filled to the brim, and the group, though unable to meet with us in person, was more than happy to help answer some of Soompi‘s and Youtubers JREKML‘s questions and give a special shoutout to their fans.

See below for VIXX’s candid thoughts on Big Byung, closest celebrity friends, and their journey and improvements as a group, all in their own words!

You’ve been to the U.S. a few times now – how do you feel about meeting your U.S. fans again?

We’ve had great memories about our previous visits to the U.S. We are more than delighted to visit once again. Even though our cultures and languages are different, thank you, foreign fans, for loving our music!

VIXX has been able to tour in countries all over the world. Is there a country you’d still like to visit?

There isn’t a specific country that we want to visit. We would love to go to any countries where we have fans, meet them and show them our music in person.

It’s been now three years since your debut. Do you still remember the feeling you had when you were performing your debut stage?

Of course, it feels like our debut was not so long ago. We were very nervous about our first stage, but we tried our very best for our debut stage just as we practiced. But, we always think we could have done better.

In your opinion, how has each member improved since debut?

I think we are more mature than 3 years ago. Hyuk is now taller than some of us. We learned how to just enjoy the show with our advanced level of music and performance.

In the past three years, what has been the most memorable or happiest moments of being an idol?

All of the past memories are still wandering in our heads. Two of the few best memories are when we held our first fan meeting, and when we took the first place crown for “Love Equation” eight times. It was just beyond our expectations. Of course, we’d like to thank our fans for their love and cheers.

Which of VIXX’s songs do you like the best and why? Which is the most fun to perform?

We like them all, but if we had to choose one, we’d choose “On and On.” Through “On and One,” we were able to get the title of ‘Conceptual Idol’ and break through a new genre for ourselves. We were able to let more people know about VIXX via this song. But then again, we love all of our songs.

If you get to do a collaboration with another singer, who would you pick and why?

Ken did a duet with EXID’s Hani not so long ago. Other members would love to collaborate with other artists by any chance as well. It’s always fun to work on projects with other artists.

Ravi, where do you get your inspiration from when you are writing songs?

Ravi: There isn’t a particular place where I get my inspiration. I usually take ideas from my daily life. When I do, I save it into my phone or memo for future use.

You are well-known for your unique concepts, from vampires to cyborgs. Which concept did you like best? If you could pick, which concept would you be in real life?

It’s quite hard to choose the best, because all of the concepts are fantastic with VIXX’s unique style and approach. We would love to do various types of concepts for our fans.

N & Hyuk, you two have garnered attention for being a part of the group Big Byung with GOT7’s Jackson and BTOB’s Sungjae. What was that experience like?

Big Byung was a fun project and experience! We’d love to work with them in the future again. Big Byung is always welcome!

What do you like to do when you have some free time in your schedules?

We usually go for a movie or play games during our free time. The members who like exercising will go to the gym together as well.

If you didn’t have the opportunity to become idols, what career paths would you be on right now?

We have been dreaming of becoming idols since we were young. Even if I have chosen another career, we’ll always been dreaming of becoming idols for sure.

Do you have a favorite part of the “Love Equation” choreography?

There’s a part where it’s called “VIXX Dance,” where you use your hand to sign the letters of VIXX. Many of our fans loved it, and follow us when we do it!

Do you watch reaction videos?

Yes, of course! Other than reaction videos, we also watch all of the videos our fans uploaded for us.

If VIXX was stranded on an island, who would survive the longest? Or escape?

Hyuk, because his body is still growing and he is the strongest member of us all. Ravi hates insects so he wouldn’t survive.

If you were a super hero or villain, what super powers would you have?

I’d love to have the super power of teleportation, so I can meet all of the Starlights around the world! I like super heroes more than villains.

What is the weirdest/funniest prank stories you’ve played on each other?

One day, Hyuk surprised Leo when he was about to sleep. Maybe Leo thought it wasn’t funny though. Haha.

If you could be another member for a day, who would you pick and why?

Leo: Hyuk. I’ll become Hyuk and scold myself.

N: Hongbin. I’d like to experience the feeling of being handsome.

Ken: Same as N, Hongbin. I am curious about what it feels like to be handsome.

Ravi: Leo, so I can talk less and rest on that day.

Hongbin: Ken, because I want to sing as well as him.

Hyuk: Leo and Ken. I would love to be the team’s main vocal for a day!

What’s in store for the future?

It’s been three years since we made our debut.. There are various talents and things we still want to show our fans. Currently, members are preparing for their own schedules and projects. Please stay tuned for a different side of VIXX!
