Yoo Jae Suk and How Much He Actually Earns
In recent days, a fabricated copy of Yoo Jae Suk’s contract was floating around online. The document noted that Yoo Jae Suks’ appearance fee per episode of MBC’s “Infinite Challenge” is about 10 million won (approximately $8,500).
MBC’s representative firmly asserted, “It’s not possible for the contract to be released to the public. The one that’s floating around online is fabricated. Also, the contract is usually written with total number of episodes per year. However, it looks clearly fabricated by the way the duration of the contract is noted from 2005 through 2016.”
According to the recent appearance fee report submitted by the broadcasting companies to the Republic of Korea National Assembly, Yoo Jae Suk received 7 million to 8 million won (approximately $5900 to $6700) per episode in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 and 2009, he received 9 million won (approximately $7600) per episode. Since 2011, it is estimated that he received around 10 million won (approximately $8,500) per episode. Also, according to the 2011 KBS document, Yoo Jae Suk received 439 million won (approximately $372,000) for his appearance in “Happy Together” resulting in around 10 million won (approximately $8,500) per episode.
Apart from the controversy over the fabricated contract floating around online, Yoo Jae Suk’s appearance fee continues to be the center of attention for many. Some say Yoo Jae Suk more than deserves the fee for who he is. However, some are of the opinion that he is receiving way too much in times of difficult economy.
In the meantime, the industry representatives are reacting quite positively to all this controversy. They believe Yoo Jae Suk’s name on the show guarantees high viewer rating and they give credit to his earnest and hard working ethics.
Another industry insider commented, “These days, the appearance fee for a top MC is 10 million won (approximately $8,500) per episode. Just with their name alone on the program, the show is recognized by many. Moreover, you can draw a wide spectrum of advertisers. For Yoo Jae Suk’s case, he more than deserves the appearance fee. He doesn’t overlap shows. Besides, his ability to lead the program and his charisma is outstanding.”
What are your thoughts? Do you think Yoo Jae Suk makes too much or does he deserve it?
