Lee Dong Wook Literally Chased "Goblin" Writer To Land His Grim Reaper Role

Lee Dong Wook, who played the role of the Grim Reaper in popular tvN drama “Goblin,” was not initially considered for the role.

After reading the script for “Goblin,” Lee Dong Wook expressed strong interest in having a role in the drama. Although Lee Dong Wook is normally cast in lead roles, he was more than happy to take on a secondary role in the drama because he was so taken by the script; however, writer Kim Eun Sook was originally against the idea of having Lee Dong Wook for the role of the Grim Reaper because she thought Lee Dong Wook did not fit the role’s image.

Lee Dong Wook admitted that he even bought a plane ticket in order to persuade writer Kim Eun Sook to consider him for the role. Clearly, the extra effort was worth it as Lee Dong Wook was cast as the Grim Reaper and is now experiencing the second prime of his 18-year career.
