BTS' 'Spring Day' Breaks US iTunes Record For K-Pop Groups, New Album Tops Global Charts

BTS is breaking more records with their new release!

On February 13 at midnight KST, BTS released their new repackaged album “You Never Walk Alone,” which features tracks from their previous hit album “WINGS” plus four new songs.

The album’s tracks quickly swept the charts in Korea, and as of 7:30 a.m. KST, their new song “Spring Day” remained at the number one spot on all eight major realtime charts, including Melon, Mnet, Bugs, olleh, Soribada, Genie, Naver Music, and Monkey3. “Not Today” followed it by coming in second place on six out of eight charts.

The album is proving to be a hit elsewhere in the world as well, as it took the top spot on the iTunes album charts in 13 countries as of 7:20 a.m. KST. Those countries include Armenia, Brunei, Finland, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In addition, their track “Spring Day” has become the first song by a K-Pop group to break into the top 10 on the iTunes songs chart in the United States. Singer PSY previously reached No. 1 on the songs chart in the country with “Gangnam Style,” but BTS is the first group to make it into the top 10.

As of 8:30 a.m. KST, “Spring Day” was at No. 8 on the United States iTunes songs chart, while “Not Today” came in at No. 11. “A Supplementary Story: You Never Walk Alone” charted at No. 20, and “Outro: Wings” came in at No. 30.

Bang Si Hyuk, the founder of BTS’s agency Big Hit Entertainment, tweeted on February 13, “What an honor! Thanks! BTS is the first K-pop group to reach the US iTunes Top 10 with #SpringDay!”

Meanwhile, the music video for “Spring Day” has been viewed an amazing 4,266,507 million times on YouTube as of 8:30 a.m. KST. BTS’s “Blood, Sweat & Tears” MV currently holds the record for the highest views reached by a K-Pop group in 24 hours with over 6.3 million views, and with more than 13 hours left to go, it looks like their fans may break that record.

Congratulations, BTS!
