Han Ye Seul Not Invited to KBS Year End Shows in Reprisal for “Spy Myungwol” Boycott?
Remember last August when Han Ye Seul boycotted the production of KBS drama “Spy Myung Wol”, flying to L.A. only to return the next morning to rejoin the cast? All the media hoopla and trouble she has caused may have cost her a seat and nomination at KBS’s year-end award show.
On December 9, KBS announced the final nominees for the “2011 KBS Acting Awards.” Ironically, Han Ye Seul’s “Spy Myungwol” was the only drama series from this year that didn’t make it to the list and none of its cast members were nominated for a single award either. In fact, Shin Ha Gyun of “Brain,” Park Min Young and Chun Jung Myung of “Glorious Jane” have all made it to the list, despite starting later than “Spy Myung Wol,” and it has raised speculation on whether KBS is behind this entire plot to punish Han Ye Seul’s boycott of the show.
It is true that “Spy Myungwol” had caused one of the worst TV drama scandals in years, and its TV ratings have also suffered badly, but not to get invited to the show at all leaves something fishy on the plate. But it seems like industry officials are taking this as an obvious result.
“’Spy Myungwol’ is a program that has caused so much trouble, and there were a lot of opinions that it did not fit our year end show which is meant to celebrate the past year,” a KBS official was quoted as saying by Star News.
“The overall view on ‘Spy Myungwol’ and its cast are negative, but aside from that, the number of votes Han Ye Seul and Eric received from expert pre-voting have also been surprisingly low,” the official added, saying it was inevitable to omit the show and cast from its year-end show.
The “2011 KBS Acting Awards” will air live on December 31. Do you agree with KBS’s decision? Or does Han Ye Seul and “Spy Myung Wol” at least deserve a mention at the show?
