Hit Rom-Com “The Greatest Love” Becomes “The Scary Love”?!
Recently, a hilarious parody of MBC’s hit drama “The Greatest Love,” starring Cha Seung Won and Gong Hyo Jin, has been surfacing the net. “The Greatest Love” is a comical love story between A-list actor Dokko Jin (Cha Seung Won) and washed up celebrity Gu Ae Jung (Gong Hyo Jin). During the first 8 episodes, the story showed Dokko Jin’s comedic and somewhat clumsy journey in wooing Gu Ae Jung. Throughout the episodes, Jin had a hard time convincing himself that he’s totally infatuated with Ae Jung but wants to win over her affections at the same time. A clever fan recycled these scenes into a well-made horror parody, titled “The Scary Love.” The parody portrays Dokko Jin as a scary stalker who follows Gu Ae Jung’s every move. Gu Ae Jung’s actual narration from the drama and the eerie background music, as well as the change in filter, created the perfect horror drama teaser.
The popular romantic comedy is written by the famous Hong sisters, the masters of trendy dramas. Their filmographies include: “My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox,” (2010), starring Lee Seung Gi and Shin Min Ah; “You’re Beautiful,” (2009) starring Jang Geun Seuk, Park Shin Hye, and CNBlue’s Jung Yong Hwa, “Hong Gil Dong,” (2008) starring Kang Ji Hwan and Sung Yuri, “Fantasy Couple,” (2006) starring Oh Ji Ho and Han Ye Seul; “My Girl” (2005) starring Lee Dong Wook and Lee Da Hae; and “Delightful Girl Chun-hyang,” (2005) starring Jae Hee and Han Chae Young. Currently, “The Greatest Love” is leading the Wednesday-Thursday drama race with its witty and fast-paced story line.
Netizens who have seen the parody commented, “I now realize the importance of background music and editing,” “It’s incredible how he was able to change a rom-com into a horror movie,” and “Dokko Jin’s a stalker!”
