How is "1 Night, 2 Days" Doing Without MC Kang Ho Dong?
Without MC Kang Ho Dong, the show, “1 Night, 2 Days,” may seem empty to some, but it still remains popular to many viewers.
The first episode that aired with only five members, Uhm Tae Woong, Lee Soo Geun, Eun Ji Won, Kim Jong Min, and Lee Seung Gi, was the “Market Special” – according to AGB Nielson, it recorded a promising viewer rating of 25.4%.
Many people first doubted such a successful outcome after hearing the unexpected retirement of MC Kang Ho Dong since he hosted the show as the main MC for the past 4 years.
Now, the remaining five members are working together to still make the show appealing to the viewers. Here are some reasons why the show will continuously remain as one of the popular shows on Sundays.
1) “The Trendy Pair,” Lee Seung Gi and Lee Soo Geun
Recently, the two were picked as the top “Post-Kang Ho Dong.” Currently, Lee Seung Gi is the solo MC for the show, SBS “Strong Heart” and Lee Soo Geun is the solo MC for the show called, “I Will Change You” – taking such big roles shows that these two have gained a lot of trust and popularity from the public.
On “1 Night, 2 Days,” Lee Seung Gi has shown the ability to talk with sense of humor as well as the ability to have a nice comfortable conversation with elders.
On the other hand, Lee Soo Geun, who has the past experience of being an active comedian, has been the expert in finding humor as well as finding ways to ad-lib in practically any situation. He also has the main role of observing the behaviors of the other members and finding humor out of them.
2) “The New center,” Uhm Tae Woong
Uhm Tae Woong has shown good leadership skills on the show. This might be due to the fact that he is the oldest, but even so, age usually is not always the reason why someone has such skills. For example, on the “Market Special” episode, there was a part where he acted as the leader of the group by havnig a 1-on-1 debate with the head PD for approximately a minute. He is also well-known for being the most logical and the most unique in the group – this has gained him the nickname, “Professor Uhm.”
3) “Somewhat Lacking (Sup-sup) Brothers,” Eun Ji Won and Kim Jong Min
After the “Market Special” episode aired, Eun Ji Won and Kim Jong Min have gained the nickname, “Somewhat Lacking (Sup-sup) Brothers.” This is due to Eun Ji Won’s image of frequently being oblivious and Kim Jong Min’s inability to be versatile with language.
For instance, there was a section on the “Market Special” episode called, “Knowledge Quiz,” where the members had to answer some questions that requires practical knowledge. According to Uhm Tae Woong, “Lee Soo Geun purposely answered some of the questions wrong for humor, but Eun Ji Won seemed like he really didn’t know the answers.” Almost everyone on the set agreed and laughed to this short comment by Uhm Tae Woong.
Kim Jong Min on the other hand, made everyone laugh after failing to accurately read a script.
As it is seen, these two have shown the ability to turn their flaws into strengths on the show.
